Health & Safety

Our systems offer features – over and above clear, reliable communication – that help our clients to provide for the health and safety of their employees and those affected by their business.

Our two-way radio systems offer a variety of health and safety benefits:

The CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) Man Down feature works using two-way digital radios that have an inbuilt mercury switch. If the radio remains horizontal for a period of time defined by the customer, for example 30 seconds, it triggers an alert. If the worker doesn’t respond to this alert within another 30 seconds an alarm is automatically sent. The alarm can be received by a central control centre, where the location of workers can also be monitored, or by another two-way radio.

In this way, should an employee have a fall, become unconscious or suffer an attack that has incapacitated them, help can be dispatched immediately. If the system has been commissioned with a tracking system too then the workers location can be readily identified.

CALM’s Man Down feature can track workers using beacons or GPS depending on the customer’s requirement.

If you are concerned with lone worker safety you may also want to consider CALM’s Lone Worker feature and look at our CALM Personal SOS Button, which is ideal for workers who do not need to carry a two-way radio but still require protection.

If you’re responsible for lone workers, vulnerable because of their working conditions, CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring’s (CALM) Lone Worker feature can offer the peace of mind that they are being constantly monitored and that their location can immediately be identified should they require assistance.

Two-way radios, working with the CALM system, can be programmed to sound a regular alarm to which workers must respond. Should they fail to do so, and they cannot be contacted via the radio, help can then be dispatched to their location, which the system constantly monitors.

So if for example a worker falls unconscious or is injured the system ensures that the alarm is raised promptly. Workers can also summon assistance at the discreet press of a button or even open the radio so others can hear what is going on in their location. This feature is ideal for security guards, traffic wardens, lone maintenance workers and all professions where working alone, with all the associated health and safety risks, is unavoidable.

A large clearly identifiable button on the two-way radio means calling for help is quick and simple and with a CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system you can set up bespoke automatic responses that depend on the time, day or week and can escalate the issue if a response is not elicited at the first level thanks to its sophisticated alarm handling capability.

If a CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system offers ‘Priority Interrupt’ it means that, in the event of a fire or other threat to personnel or public safety, key radio operators (e.g. security managers) can push the ‘Priority Interrupt’ emergency button on their radio, enabling them to interrupt any incoming or outgoing call on the radio system.

This is potentially useful in a scenario where one of the radio users is making the current radio channel busy and a manager or security officer needs to relay critical information. Priority Interrupt pulls all the two-way radios in the system on to an emergency channel. Radio users can, if they need to, respond immediately to all other users making evacuations and the response to critical situations quicker as there is no need for any users to change radio channels. Pressing the button initiates Priority Interrupt, and when the same button is pressed again the system reverts to normal i.e. the channels separate.

A CSE Chatterbox Alarm Location Monitoring (CALM) system allows you to respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to alerts and alarms.

Because organisations differ, each will need to respond in a unique way so CALM provides the flexibility to customise alarm handling by mixing and matching criteria to create an unlimited number of rules and responses.

For example, a different supervisor can be alerted depending on the time of day and/or the worker’s exact location. An alarm can be triggered should a worker or vehicle enter or exit a geo-fence. You can even integrate CALM with CCTV so that when an alarm is triggered, the display will automatically jump to the appropriate location.
